IAD Elects Leaders

IAD Delegates gathered as top church leaders read the names submitted by the nominating committee to serve the church for the next five years.

Delegates of the 59th General Conference Session from the Inter-American Division (IAD) voted to appoint vice presidents and church department directors to lead the 3.3 million territory for the next five years. The meeting, held July 1, 2010 gathered some 245 IAD delegates at the Georgia World Congress Center, in Atlanta, Georgia.

After a thorough examination of the names, a nominating committee formed of delegates from the IAD caucus presented the names to the IAD delegation representing the vast territory of Inter-America.

"We have had a beautiful nominating committee, a high class and qualified meeting," said Pastor Leito, president of the church in Inter-America as fellow top officers Dr. Elie Henry, newly elected secretary and Filiberto Verduzco, treasurer stood by.

Ted N. C. Wilson, a vice president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the son of a former church president, was today elected to serve as president of the 16.3-million member global Protestant denomination.

Wilson was appointed by the church's 246-member Nominating Committee and confirmed by the General Conference Session delegation, which is an international body of 2,410 appointed members and the highest governing body in the church.

Wilson replaces Jan Paulsen, who has served as president since 1999.

The appointment took place at the church's 59th General Conference Session, being held at the Georgia Dome and adjacent World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Tucked in the farthermost wing on the top level of the sprawling Georgia World Congress Center, down a long hallway where few people wander, a select group of delegates gathered behind closed doors to undertake the most important task of the 59th General Conference Session.
